ICYMI: My first book, The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide: Interviews, Itineraries, and Inspiration from Queer Insiders in 50+ Proud Places for Lonely Planet, officially hit shelves this week on Tuesday, March 18—so if you pre-ordered a copy, it should arrive soon (if it hasn’t already)!
What have the vibes been like during my first-ever Pub Week, you ask? Great question! I’ve been elated, exhausted, thrilled, terrified, hopeful, humbled, and a zillion other experiences all rolled into one… but above all so, so grateful.
A massive thank you to everyone who has ordered, read, shared, reviewed, gifted, and otherwise enjoyed this book already and to all those planning to do any of the above in the future… You’re quite literally contributing to making my dreams come true, so seriously, thank you.
For those interested, here’s a peek behind the scenes of this week’s UK launch event, which took place on Monday evening in Edinburgh. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts at Lighthouse Bookshop (especially owner Mairi, for her thoughtful contributions to the Edinburgh chapter of the book, enthusiastic participation in the Q&A at the event, and her overall amazingness as a person), to the team at Gosh PR for coordinating it all, to August 21 for catering, to Paradise Palms for a delicious afterparty, to my sweet partner Andrew for his endless support in all forms, and to every single person who joined us for this awesome event to ask thoughtful questions and purchase copies to be signed. I am still on cloud nine and remain absolutely giddy with gratitude!
See ya next month for the first US book launch event in Richmond, Virginia at Fountain Bookstore with Paige Poprocky of The Richmond Experience (and keep an eye out for even more book tour dates to come).
P.S. If you’re one of the lovely people who pre-ordered a copy of the book, it would mean the world to me if you could take a moment to leave a review for it—on the website for whichever store you purchased it from, but also on your reading tracker of choice (think: Storygraph, Bookmory, Fable, Bookly, Goodreads, etc.) if you have the time! If it helps, I can promise you that every positive review I receive results in a very silly-looking happy dance and sometimes even reduces me to a puddle of happy tears, so feel free to enjoy that mental image when you hit submit.
I thought the format was fabulous for planning holidays. I did think the physical size of the book fitted that need. Clear information, in well laid out space. I wondered if in future editions, of which I'm sure their will be many, perhaps a QR code with access to a digital and accessible summary, of names, of places and people would a boon to readers. This isn't criticism, obviously a note pad and pen will suffice, I thought it just a nice digital touch. 👍
P.S. I never tired of unashamedly using the word 'fabulous' to describe things. A friend once described it as 'Such a gay 70's word'... but it still works, particularly well here... fabulously in fact!
We have one! I really appreciate and enjoy your book launch in Lighthouse Bookshop, in Edinburgh. Well done to you abd and all involved, at Lonely Planet and of course in Lighthouse Bookshop. .
